The Remote Recording Process

How a remote session works

If you’ve read this far, you may need more information on how to work with a voice actor remotely. Or what to expect working with me. So, here’s a little breakdown of my process:

1. Brief me: Send your script, the tone you’re after, reference clips if you have them, and your deadline. The more detail you include — usage, medium, character notes, pronunciation guides — the more specific I can make a sample read for your approval, understand your expectations, and send you a quote for the job.
2. Book or record: Either book a live-directed session (we’re connected in real time via Source Connect, SessionLink Pro, Zoom, or whatever you prefer), or I record self-directed and send files for your review.
3. You direct or approve: Live sessions let you hear every take and we can adjust the read or performance on the spot. Self-directed projects are recorded on my own, in my own time. In both cases, you’ll receive an invoice after the session with a link to download the recordings. Sessions can typically be booked or turned around within 24 hours, or next business day. Busy periods might be a bit longer!
4. Pickups & revisions: If revisions are needed, it’s basically the same process as the main recording. If there are any issues with the recording, that will be fixed free of charge. Just let me know what you need.

BROADCAST QUALITY WITH REMOTE CAPABILITY

My professional home voice over studio in Melbourne is where the magic happens! Equipped with a Neumann U 87 clone (OPR 87) microphone, a Solid State Logic SSL2 interface, and Beyerdynamic DT770 headphones, as well as blazing-fast 900 Mbps down / 40 Mbps up internet connection, my studio is designed for collaboration and exceptional audio quality.

Additionally, you’ll be partnering with a voiceover talent who is competent in basic editing and mastering, using recording software like Reaper and iZotope RX 9. That said, I’m a voice actor first. While I’m decent at the basic editing and mastering (and very comfortable producing audiobooks without sound design), if your production’s got a heap of separate files and needs proper mixing, I’ll advise bringing in a dedicated audio engineer. It’ll sound better, reduce a huge amount of headaches for both of us, and I’d rather be upfront than hand you something half-arsed!

LIVE-DIRECTED SESSIONS

With this space, I’m able to offer the smoothest live-directed sessions via Source Connect, Zoom, Skype, Discord, and more. Thus allowing us to collaborate in real-time, ensuring we get your project exactly right.

Whether you need a captivating voice for your commercial, a unique character for your video game, or a clear and engaging voice for corporate narration, I’ve recorded them all live with clients around the world from this perfectly engineered space.

I do offer extended hours for live sessions to suit East Coast US, the UK and Europe, free of charge, because you shouldn’t have to pay for my timezone convenience. That said, it’s always within reason!
